
The Wisconsin National Guard has forged a public-private alliance with Edgewood College in Madison, Wisconsin, facilitating an expedited route to a Master’s Degree in education at a significantly reduced cost.
Through Edgewood College’s Accelerated Teacher Education Partnership, participants are immersed in a program designed to grant teaching credentials within 12 months, combining coursework with hands-on teaching experience under the guidance of seasoned educators.
The tuition for this initiative has been slashed by 45 percent, making a 30-credit master’s degree accessible for $9,750.
Maj. Gen. Paul Knapp, Wisconsin’s adjutant general, emphasized the significance of this collaboration, highlighting the longstanding commitment of the National Guard to community support. He noted that this partnership not only aligns with that tradition but also presents a remarkable opportunity for Guard members and their spouses while addressing a crucial need in schools statewide.
Andrew P. Manion, president of Edgewood College, pointed out the rise in emergency teaching licenses issued by Wisconsin school districts to combat teacher shortages over the past decade. He underscored the importance of this partnership in utilizing technology to meet the community's needs.
Dr. Michael Meissen, leveraging over 40 years of experience in public education, expressed gratitude for the collaboration with the Wisconsin Air and Army National Guard. He articulated optimism about the collective impact in addressing the urgent demand for highly qualified educators in the state.
Established in 1927 with a focus on preparing young women for teaching careers, Edgewood College continues its mission through innovative partnerships like this one.
